Flexible clinical support for people open to children's social care and adult learning disability services

NEST works with local authorities, commissioners and social care teams to support anyone open to children's social care or adult learning disability services, whether they live at home, with foster or kinship carers, in residential care or in supported living. We can work alongside your existing provision, or alongside the providers you commission, so that clinical input reaches the people who need it.

What We Offer

  • Specialist assessment to inform care planning: neurodevelopmental, cognitive, sensory, communication and behavioural assessment through one multidisciplinary team, with clear written reports and practical recommendations.

  • Support for people and placements at risk: consultation and formulation to help families, carers and teams understand a young person or adult and respond in a way that keeps their placement or home life steady.

  • Support for families, carers and residential teams: reflective practice, guidance and training for the people providing everyday care.

  • Direct clinical work: psychological, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy and Positive Behaviour Support input for individuals, where appropriate to their needs.

  • Liaison across the system: we work with social workers, education, health professionals and families so that advice is joined up.

How We Work

  1. Referral and scoping. A social worker, commissioner or placement team tells us who the work is for and what question needs answering. We agree the best route and who we need to speak to.

  2. Agree the plan. We confirm the scope, fees, timescales, review points and who receives reports, along with consent and information sharing.

  3. Assess and formulate. We gather information from the person, their carers or team, family, social care, education and health, then share a clear written formulation with practical recommendations that can feed straight into care planning, reviews and panels.

  4. Support and review. We help the network put recommendations into practice, review at agreed points, and step support up or down as needs change. Any safeguarding concerns are raised promptly, in line with our safeguarding policy.
